There are all types of drinkers. There are those who enjoy their whiskey on the rocks and then there are those who live life perpetually looking forward to that first sip of chilled beer after a hard day’s work. There are wine drinkers and then there are the Old Monk lovers, a hefty bunch of them! While alcohol can be enjoyed in all forms and its purpose could be either unwinding or celebration, what is important is that the drinker must be able to enjoy his drink. And one of best forms in which drinks can be enjoyed is in the form of cocktails!
Drinks like beer and wine go down smoothly but for the other types of hard liquor like whiskey, black rum, white rum, vodka, gin and brandy, adding a twist of fruit, lime or any other flavour helps a great deal. Which is why cocktails are awesome! They are tasty, fruity and provide an exciting punch to the pallet, while also accomplishing the task of providing the drinker with the happy feeling or in the case of too much alcohol, feeling high!
I, personally, am a big fan of cocktails! Right from the spicy Bloody Mary’s to the refreshing Mojito’s, the hard-hitting Long Island Iced Teas to the elegant Cosmopolitans, I love them all and don’t twitch an eye before saying “One more, please!” So when I was invited by United Spirits to try out their exclusive collection of Star Trek Beyond – Smirnoff Cocktails, I gladly agreed! The tasting session was held at Apache High Street in Balewadi. Using spirits like vodka, gin, black rum and interesting mixers like blue curacao, apple syrup, peach syrup, black coffee and coconut essence, Mr. Jacob Alexander, the Brand Ambassador of United Spirits, put together some brilliant cocktails, the yummy taste of which lingers in my mouth even as I write this post.
The collection included five cocktails, namely, The Spocktail, Vulcan Salute, Beam Me Up, Warp Driver and LIIT (& PROSPER). The first four are variations using vodka, while the last one is a type of Long Island Iced Tea, which uses Smirnoff Orange, Captain Morgan and Gin. My favourite had to be the Beam Me Up, which was made using the Smirnoff Espresso since that has been my absolute favourite flavour of vodka since the time of its introduction. This one uses Coffee and Butterscotch along with the vodka, making it a perfect drink for coffee lovers like me. Jacob also prepared a variation of it using Hazelnut and Cream instead of Butterscotch, which tasted exactly like Bailey’s! Yes! It was heavenly!
The other cocktails too were a refreshing change from the ordinary ones. The Warp Driver had an interesting colour with Smirnoff Vodka, Pineapple Juice, Coconut Syrup and Blue Curacao mixed together. It gave a lovely aftertaste of coconut with every sip, making it an absolute must-try! My least favourite would be The LIIT (& PROSPER). There’s not any particular negative aspect I can point out but for me, it wasn’t any different than the ordinary and I’d rather go in for the regular LIIT.
The best part about all the cocktails was that we got a chance to make them ourselves. Make way for the lady bartender, please! That turned the session into more like a cocktail-making workshop along with the tasting. I loved it! And I’m sure you are going to love having them. So go try, now!
